Here at Thomas Banks and Partners, as part of our commitment to the environment we have just installed a state of the art Linka Biomass Boiler, supplied by Manco Energy Ltd. This is now generating up to 1 mega watt of heat to supply heat to the Manor House, workshop buildings, The Manor Barn wedding venue as well as grain drying.
The biomass used for the boiler is wheat straw, which is produced on our own land and is a waste product of our wheat production. All the ash generated by the boiler is then collected and spread back onto the land where the straw was removed from. This returns the trace elements that were taken off the field by the removal of the straw.
The straw is baled into bales that weigh up to 0.8t. These are then loaded onto a conveyor (see above) which automatically supplies the burner with the correct amount of straw relevant to heat demand. This means the system is fully automated except when the conveyor needs re-loading.
Due to the biomass boiler, our site at Manor Farm is now totally self-sufficient for all its heat requirements and therefore substantially reducing our carbon footprint.
